Details of the day: I always knew that I wanted my wedding ceremony to be outdoors and how I wanted my bridesmaids to look on my wedding day, so that was the basis for everything else! I wanted my girls to look comfortable, organic, airy, and ethereal. For our wedding day, Matt and I did not want anything over the top, but instead we wanted our day to be intimate, relaxed, and beautiful for ourselves and all of our guests. We had about 100 guests and many of the vendors we used were friends- Matt grew up playing soccer with and now works with our DJ, the hair stylist is a friend of mine from New York, our florist has known Matt’s family for many years, and most importantly, our officiant, Jack, is a friend of Matt’s who was actually with Matt the night he and I met back in 2008! Having Jack as our officiant was one of the most special parts of our day (along with walking down the aisle with my Dad to an acoustic guitar version of a song by my favorite band- Kings of Leon) . A few hand-made touches helped to add to the intimate feel of the wedding. Matt hand wrote the ceremony program on a chalk board easel that he built and my cousin and bridesmaid, Vanessa, designed and created the place cards and table numbers for us. All of this made for the most perfect day we ever could have imagined. Everything was just the way we dreamed- our closest family and friends in a beautiful location celebrating our love and having a great time eating, drinking, and dancing together, despite the over 100 degree weather!
Your favorite part: There are so many “favorite parts” of my wedding day, but if I had to choose one part, it would be while Matt and I took our photos. Matt and I did our “first look” and photos prior to the ceremony. This was very special to me because it was really the only time alone Matt and I had on our wedding day. Since we did our portraits before the ceremony, we also didn’t feel the pressure of getting the photos over with quickly so we could get to the reception to see our guests. We could take our time and have fun with just each other before the rest of the day’s festivities began. I will never forget this relaxed, alone time that we had together!
Advice for other brides: My advice is to “go with your gut” and do what will make you happy! Be sure to always and only surround yourself with those who want you to be happy and have your best interest in mind! Try not to get caught up in what you think you should be doing or what others think you should be doing.
