Details of the day:
My husband and I had always dreamed of a classic wedding, and our day was all we could have asked for and more! We started the day getting ready at our respective houses. My Pronovias gown was lace and gave me the perfect mix of class and elegance that I was hoping for. A vintage Rolls Royce picked up my father and me from my house.
At the church, the pews were lined with candles, and our personalized runner lined the aisle. Guests were offered tissue packets from our junior groomsmen that informed guests to use the tissues for “your tears of joy, for your tears of laughter, for your tears of happily ever after.” The tissue packets were secured with a wax seal, which was a theme throughout our wedding from the invitations to the favors. While we exchanged vows, we performed the “tying the knot” ceremony, a Celtic tradition that demonstrates how your vows bind you to one another eternally. Each color in the thread is symbolic. After the ceremony, the flower girl handed guests rose petal cones to shower us with as we left the church. Outside the church, bagpipes were playing, representing my Scottish heritage.
After taking pictures at Packanack Lake, we drove to The Grove. Guests were welcomed with a signature cocktail and were shown our guest book, a fingerprint tree. We asked our guests to “leave your print and sign your name below, so in the years to come we could know who helped our marriage grow.” A piano player provided background music as guests made their way into the cocktail hour. On a balcony that overlooked the cocktail hour space, we had a harpist, violinist and flutist providing light music for the cocktail hour.
The ballroom was decorated with two types of centerpieces. The main centerpiece consisted of white and blush colored roses and hydrangeas. The second, anchoring the dance floor, consisted of branches covered in orchids and candles. At their place settings, each guest found a personally designed menu with a thank-you note to our guests. On top of our menus were wedding favors: a box of chocolates and a card alerting guests that we made a donation on their behalf to an animal shelter in the area. The boxes were sealed with a wax seal with our monogram. When we entered the ballroom, I removed a lace jacket I had worn for the ceremony, showing my fun second look of the evening. Our band did a fantastic job and everyone was dancing. Guests were offered “dancing shoes” so they could dance the night away more comfortably. We opted to have a photo/video booth so our guests could take pictures and also leave us video messages. It was so fun watching these on our honeymoon! After cutting our wedding cake, a wall was removed and our guests were invited to indulge in every sweet desire they had. After the reception, we hosted an after party at the “Ten6 Twelve Lounge.” We had bouncers and a DJ which gave everyone the real club vibe. We ended the night with a sparkler send-off from our bridal party.
My favorite part:
One of the favorite parts of our wedding day was when the ceremony ended and we were waiting in the antique Rolls Royce. In a day filled with so many family and friends, it was nice to steal a moment with just the two of us.
Advice for other brides:
My advice for other brides would be to just enjoy the day. Things are going to happen that maybe aren’t exactly as you had planned, but there is nothing you can do to change it. Enjoy every minute of your wedding because before you know it, the day is over and only your memories will remain.
