Details of the day: I have been told I look very much like Grace Kelly, so I had her in mind for every detail of my wedding. The entire wedding was shades of ivory with gold accents. The gown I actually found in a magazine ad. It was by Rosa Clara. I’m definitely a Rosa Clara girl very Audrey Hepburn / Grace Kelly. I saw it and immediately wanted the dress. I called 20 places before I found one that carried it since it’s the highest end of the line. The wedding shop where I bought it told me there were two traveling the country in trunk shows. I had to have it specially brought in. I was very worried I would not look good in it seeing as the model was 6 feet tall. I tried it on first and my parents and I gasped. I tried on about nine others at the same store but even the women helping said that’s my dress! The entire wedding was elegant all the way. I had many people tell me you can’t pull off a beach black tie wedding. I told them it’s a black tie wedding that happens to be at the beach. I proved them wrong!
Your favorite part: I have two favorite parts. Ceremony: When the rabbi read the seven blessings. My husband and I had our cheeks pressed together. I had my eyes closed. It felt so spiritual. I imagined all the Jewish women who had come before me hearing this beautiful prayer. I opened my eyes at one point and saw a flock of seagulls go by in v-formation. Just tranquil and spiritual. Reception: Definitely the moment the draped partition opened and I entered the reception room from the cocktail hour alone. The room hit me like a ton of bricks. Just thousands of flowers and hundreds of candles. I had high expectations and this exceeded them. I just kept repeating “oh my” just over and over again.
If you could change one thing about your wedding what would it be? I would have hired a day of coordinator. I did all the wedding planning myself, and there were two event planners that helped but I really needed someone that day to help with the timeline staying on point for the duration of the wedding.
Advice for other brides: It sounds cliche but really enjoy every moment and don’t focus on small petty things. We had an outdoor ceremony and the weather was touch-and-go all the way up to the day of the wedding. That day, I was complaining about stuff and my mother said “stop complaining the weather is perfect and that’s all the matters.” She was right. There were minor things I could have tweaked but we had people tell us afterward that they’ve been to hundreds of weddings and ours was the best they ever attended. For brides — see it through the guests eyes not your own, you learn to nitpick less. The other piece of advice hire a dresser for day. I would have been lost without someone helping to steam the dress, take it off and on me, fix the train, etc.
