Their Story: Megan Ardizzone, 27, and John Cush, 36, met years ago through John’s cousins, who are friends of Megan’s. During a vacation to Jamaica in November 2013, John popped the question as he and Megan walked on the beach, and she happily said yes. “We’ve been together for 10 years and I still don’t have a single bad thing to say about him,” Megan says. “He’s genuinely kind, generous and funny. He’s the whole package.”
Their Location: Knowing they wanted a rustic chic farm wedding, the New Yorkers began working with wedding planner Deb Ross of Y Knot Now who suggested Chimney Hill Estate Inn in Lambertville. “I immediately fell in love with it,” Megan says.
Details of the Day: Reclaimed barnwood tables, centerpieces of roses, hydrangea and flowing ivy, mercury-glass accents and chandeliers draped in ivy combined to create a naturally elegant setting for the outside ceremony and cocktail hour and tented reception. A beer garden and lounge area with antique couches and stacked vintage suitcase “coffee tables” added to the ambience. “We wanted guests to feel like they were at a fancy event but to also have a comfortable atmosphere that encouraged mingling,” Megan says.
The Menu: The cocktail hour featured chicken and waffles, grilled-cheese sandwiches with tomato-soup shooters, crab cakes and gazpacho shooters. For dinner, dishes such as rosemary-lemon chicken, grilled salmon and roasted potatoes were served family-style with wedding cake, fruit tarts and homemade doughnuts for dessert. “I really wanted to create a family atmosphere where if you didn’t know someone at your table you got to know them as everyone passed the food around and chatted,” Megan says.
The Cake: It had three tiers—a marble cake with cannoli cream, a chocolate cake with raspberry glaze and vanilla cake with lemon glaze.
Made the Day Sweeter: “Our 2-year-old son, John Jr., was the ring bearer. Between wearing a suit on a 95-degree day and everyone oohing and aahing over him, he did veer off course a bit at the ceremony but had a blast at the reception,” says Megan. “Since my father passed away shortly before the wedding, instead of a father-daughter dance I danced with my son as photos of me, my dad and my son were projected onto a screen behind us.”
Favorite Moment: “Reciting our vows,” says Megan. “John is very quiet and shy so I was surprised that he was on board to get up in front of everyone and say vows that we wrote ourselves. Saying those words and hearing them back was a really important moment.”
