How you decorate your tables is one of the easiest ways to create an instant wow factor and unique atmosphere as your guests walk into your reception space. Go simple with candles and lanterns—or all out with opulent floral arrangements, candelabras and other decorative items. Here, floral and event designer Kristin Rockhill of Details of I Do in Princeton and floral designer Angela D’Andrea of Angela Nicole Design in Allentown showcase some of their latest tablescape trends and fill us in on expert tips. “This season I am loving banquet and square-shaped tables and the return of the linen in textured and drapey fabrics over rustic farm tables,” Rockhill says. For center stage, she prefers lush garden blooms that pack a powerful punch in unexpected color combos styled into eclectic cluster centerpiece displays with candlelight and sweet details like vintage books and mini bottles of blooms. She favors low floral arrangements and taper candles over traditional tall centerpieces. And then when it comes to the place settings, layering is key! Stack charger plates with vintage-style china, custom menus, a sprig of greenery or fruit and a fun twist on the napkin styling for a stunningly styled tablescape. Here are some of their designs to help you get inspired:
50 Shades of Gray “Gray is my favorite color,” says Rockhill. “All the walls in my house are painted gray, I wear gray and yup, my first born’s name is Grayson. So when it comes to setting a stunningly styled tablescape, my go to linen choice is gray. It pairs perfectly with wood tones, neutrals, pastels and even bright and cheery hues like lemon and tangerine!”
Pretty in Pink Being “Pretty in Pink” is not always easy, but there’s a way to pull it off in style. Here, D’Andrea created a bouquet with a delicate mixture of white hydrangea, peach stock, blush peony and white garden roses, with just a touch of white anemone. “To keep this piece light and airy, I steered away from any heavy greenery, using just a few pieces of Italian ruscus and plumosa,” she says. With a beautiful blush linen, the tables are adorned with layers of whites and creams to match the fluffy pink and white floral arrangements. If your groom is not so keen on hot-pink florals covering every table of your wedding, a great way to incorporate that fun bright hue is with the dessert display. You can’t go wrong with a table filled with rainbow-sprinkled goodies!
Breakfast At Tiffany’s Couples have been in love with this theme for decades, but here it is with a vintage spin. Rockhill tucked lush luxe blooms into delicate jardin jars set atop stacked vintage books. She then added candlelight from tapers to floating candles to jar candles, resulting in a glowing tablescape. The muted blush and purple hues pop against the Tiffany-blue linen, and the layered place setting with knotted blush napkins and menus complete this look oh so perfectly.
Oblong Obsession According to Rockhill and D’Andrea, oblong, organic-shaped centerpieces are the go-to-centerpiece this season. They look great on oval or banquet tables and their shape allows them to fill up a long tablescape without needing multiple arrangements. Add various-height candles for a touch of romance and a layered place setting, and you’ve got one stunningly styled table. Oh, and erries, they advise, because they always look good!
Lemon Zest This look combines dark wood tones with natural wood charger plates and candlesticks from Michaels. “I’m a big fan of texture and an organic touch, so adding details like lemons is a must,” Rockhill says. “I also love adding a pop of unexpected color like the green tapered candles and for a touch of whimsy a bottle of lemon Pellegrino for every guest.”
