Wedding photographer Thomas Stewart is urging brides and grooms to have a completely unplugged wedding ceremony. We’ve talked about unplugging your wedding day, and many couples have gone ahead and embraced the “unplugged wedding,” but it appears that the problem could be getting worse.

After working a wedding where guests with cell phones blocked the grooms view of his bride walking down the aisle, Thomas Stewart posted his plea to Facebook. He outlined all the problems that arise when wedding guests try to take their own pictures during the wedding ceremony.

“In the past I should have been more specific with my clients in explaining to them why guests should be told no photos. Well, from now on, I’m going to make a pretty big deal about it,” he wrote.

Guests typically get in the way of the photographer— you know, the one you paid to take professional pictures of you and your husband on your big day. Not to mention the fact that the majority of the time, cell phone pictures aren’t the best quality.

“You can’t take great photos with your camera phone by leaning into the aisle of a dark church to photograph a moving subject. Hell, even lots of professionals have trouble with this,” Stewart wrote.

The moral of the story is: keep your phone away and live in the moment! Enjoy seeing the bride and groom in real life, rather than on your tiny phone (or camera) screen. Let a professional handle taking the pictures, and enjoy watching the beautiful union of two people in love with your own eyes.
