Wedding etiquette expert Jeff Beil shared with us what NOT to do in the digital world when it comes to weddings:

When you hear the term wedding etiquette, usually how much to give, what to wear, and when to RSVP,  comes to mind. But nowadays, traditional wedding etiquette also applies the digital world – and there are some mistakes you cannot make if you want to stay friends with the newlyweds after the wedding.

If you’re invited to spend your loved ones’ special day with them, please consider the following digital wedding don’ts:

· Don’t spoil the fun. The bride or groom’s “Last fling before the ring” should not be broadcasted across social media outlets! Remember this is their time to let loose and have a good time without people following along at home. Don’t ruin the fun because you needed to Snapchat the festivities! Remember: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas – no matter how innocent!

· Don’t ruin the big moment. Everyone loves the moment the groom sees the blushing bride in her gown for the first time. But if you get a shot of the bride before her soon-to-be hubby sees her and post on social media – you completely blew it! This is a no no. If you do get a picture of the bride before she walks down the aisle, wait to upload your photo until after the ceremony – and be sure to use their designated hashtag when you do!

· Don’t use flash photography or any lighting during the ceremony. Even if you are “Instafamous” and need the best possible shot of the bride and groom during their nuptials – they hired a professional photographer for a reason.  The last thing you want to do – and they want you to do – is ruin the shots of their big moment. Keeping your phone away is the best option. If you must take pictures, be sure your sound is off – no shutter noise – and absolutely no flash.

·  Don’t use PayPal or email your gift. Nowadays, couples can easily register online for cash gifts – so don’t make it harder than it is. No couple wants to go through the painful process of accepting gifts from all over the Internet – or have to create a PayPal account just to accept their wedding gift! And remember, we’re in the digital age, so you can still give your online cash gift elegantly with personalized digital cards and messaging.

·  Don’t be distracted by your phone. Your loved ones’ big day is not a time to be checking snap stories, newsfeeds or uploading photos. They invited you to share this special day and celebrate with them – so live in the moment, have fun and upload later!
