How did you meet?
We met at Pier 13 – a Hoboken staple on the waterfront overlooking the New York City skyline – in 2014. We were in a group of mutual friends, got to talking, and went on our first date the following week.

How did you get engaged?
Not far from where we first met, Ryan proposed at our favorite spot on the waterfront that has completely unobstructed views of the skyline. The next day, Ryan surprised me with a gathering of our closest friends and family to celebrate our engagement. It was perfect in every way.

Details of the day!
We wanted a romantic, modern rustic feel and with the late summer timing, chose bright florals that would pop (dusty rose, marigold, light pink, peach). My bridesmaids wore a dusty rose in 3 different styles and the groomsmen wore timeless classic tuxedos. We had light touches of winery elements (wine crates, clear wine bottles with vines and florals) to compliment the décor of the Reserve at Perona Farms.

Why did you choose your venue?
It was important to us to find a venue that offered everything in one place (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception) so that guests would be able to relax and enjoy, and when we visited Perona Farms, we fell in love with the beautiful grounds that offered an endless variety of photo spots. We also loved the Mediterranean feel of The Reserve and especially loved the indoor/outdoor cocktail hour space. We loved that Perona provided lots of cocktail hour stations and options and that a lot of their food is farm to table. As a family-run business, we also felt like we would be in good hands with their management team (and we were!).

What was on your menu?
We started with burrata as an appetizer, followed by a Caesar salad. For the main course, we had a duet plate of chateaubriand of beef and crab cakes. Our cake was red velvet with cream cheese frosting. We also had fresh pizza made in Perona’s pizza oven as well as homemade cinnamon-sugar doughnuts for late-night and to-go snacks.

All about your gown!
My dress was an A-line, hand-beaded gown from Enaura Bridal with a custom deep v neckline. I knew I wanted either an A-line style or ballgown with a v-neckline but wasn’t sure of the embellishments before I went shopping. After trying on tons of gowns (about 50) at several stores, I put on my dress and fell in love. I had never seen a dress with such intricate beading that also had the perfect silhouette – I felt like it was made for me.

What was your favorite moment?
Ryan and I actually got officially married in a small ceremony in 2020 but postponed our big event to 2021. In 2020, we exchanged rings so hadn’t planned on re-exchanging in our ceremony. When we got to that part in the ceremony, Ryan stopped our officiant and pulled out a ring box – he surprised me with a second wedding band. He hadn’t told anyone about it and It was such a sweet moment.

One detail you couldn’t live without?
It was really important to us to have music that would keep everyone on the dancefloor most of the wedding, so we couldn’t live without a great DJ. Tony Tee Neto from SCE did not disappoint! He kept the party going through the extra hour and everyone raved about how fun our dancefloor was. We loved it!

Did anything go wrong?
My shoes had gems on them that I noticed were snagging on my dress as we were getting on our shuttle to the venue. Luckily one of my bridesmaids had scissors and I did emergency “surgery” on my shoes to cut off the gems on the bus ride over. Everything turned out fine, but I would not recommend using scissors on a moving bus to any other bride knowing what could’ve went wrong. It ended up distracting me from being nervous on the ride over though!

Any advice for future brides?
After postponing, I had a lot more emotions going into the wedding day than I thought I would because I was just so happy that we were finally able to have the celebration we wanted with our family and friends. The week leading up, we talked about how lucky we were to get to have a wedding like this at all and how much stronger we had gotten the past year. So while the day might seem like the biggest and most important day ever (and it kind of is) all those little things you worry about leading up to your wedding will not matter in the end. It’s cliché, but true – don’t sweat the small stuff!
