Read MoreFor her backyard wedding in Point Pleasant to husband Brandon, Maddie Hoy decided not to wear makeup.
“You do not have to wear makeup on your wedding day if you don’t want to,” she says. “I don’t wear makeup. I used to for years, but I stopped when I was around 25. I’m 33 now, and when we were wedding planning, it was an easy decision to make.”
“What I was not expecting was how some people, mostly women, had something to say about this decision,” she explains. “While there were many women who supported me or understood, I was shocked at how many comments I got from all women, some I’m close with and some I barely know.”
The comments included:
• You’re sure you don’t want to wear a little?
• You really think that’s a good idea?
• You should really consider mascara or a tinted moisturizer at least.
• You’ll look washed out in photos.
“None of these comments made me consider changing my mind,” says Maddie. “And to be clear, I have nothing against makeup or anyone who wears it. Of course I understand how it’s important, fun and special for most brides. Women look beautiful either way!”
“I just wanted to let anyone know who is considering not wearing makeup on their wedding day that you don’t have to and your pictures will turn out fine.”
“It’s important to be yourself and feel comfortable on your wedding day. Do what makes you happy!”
