“I wanted our reception to be classic, elegant, and unforgettable, but not TOO traditional or modern. While selecting my motif, I read a lot of Grace Ormonde and Preston Bailey pieces. I’m not one for colors, so I knew I wanted my centerpieces all ivory’s and I ended up going with a shimmery chestnut for the girls dresses which I though was perfect for our November date.”
If you were to describe your wedding day in one word what would it be and why?
“Perfect. My wedding was everything I’ve ever dreamed of and more. I remember so many people warning me before the wedding to let things roll off my shoulders if things go wrong because they will, but that simply wasn’t the case. The whole event went off without a hitch. Hands down, it was the best, most beautiful day of my life. I could not have chosen a more professional group of vendors to run our affair.”
Tell us about your wedding venue.
“I will never forget the first appointment we had at Ashford. It was about a month after we were engaged. As we pulled up the tree lined drive, my mom, husband, and I were speechless. I think I knew it was ‘the one’ before we even toured the estate. But once we were inside, it was like the most amazing place I had ever seen. The Ashford Estate exudes elegance, but with a breath of fresh air. It’s nothing like a stuffy old mansion. The décor is like a fresh twist on the French provincial style. We started downstairs where we were shown the library, and continued upstairs to the generously appointed guest bedrooms (each with a different theme) to the final floor with the parent suites, and bridal suite. The bridal suite swept me off my feet. The suite was decorated with beautiful blues, whites, and ivory’s, and luxurious linens.”
Describe your tablescapes.
“We had shimmery ivory organza runners atop ivory linens, gold chiavari chairs, and lots of small candles at the base of the centerpieces. We had one menu card, handmade by our stationary vendor, to stand on the table matching our beautiful crystal table numbers. I wanted only one menu because I wanted to encourage communication at the tables by having them pass the menu around.”
Describe your escort card table.
“We had a custom seating chart made to stand right in front of the ballroom, with our crystal monogram at the top. I wanted to do something different. I loved choosing my menus, stationary, dresses, colors, MY GOWN! Honestly, everything! I had such a blast planning our wedding. Best time of my life. I miss it so much!”
Do you have any advice for couples that are planning their wedding?
“Stay close during the process and lean on each other for support. Girls, don’t assume your husband doesn’t care about wedding planning. Guys, don’t assume your girl doesn’t need any help! You’re her life partner and this is the biggest day of your lives so far…she needs you! My husband and I went to every single appointment, tasting and fitting together (besides my dress.) I am so thankful to have a husband that was excited to be involved. I could have never done it without him. He is my best friend!”
