Will You Marry Me? After a night out celebrating their anniversary, Greg Moller took Brittany Lerew back home, where he had set up a super-romantic proposal with help from friends who were babysitting the couple’s son. “From the top of the stairs I followed a trail of flowers, candles and notes to the bedroom,” Brittany says. “The ring was surrounded by rose petals shaped into a heart. It was five years to the day since we started dating.”
The Location: Greg grew up in Cape May and a lot of his family still lives there. So when it came to choosing a location for their September 30, 2016, wedding, the Shore town was perfect. “I fell in love with its Victorian charm and quaint atmosphere,” says Brittany, who is from York, Pennsylvania. “Then once we toured the Southern Mansion, we knew we had found our venue.” They loved the grand entrance into the gardens via a spiral staircase, and the solarium with a garden view for dinner. “I really wanted a vintage-inspired garden wedding,” she says.
Details of the Day: Brittany spent two and a half years planning her wedding, including many details inspired by Pinterest. Hand-painted suitcase tags attached to skeleton keys guided the 100 guests to their seats. Tables were decorated with silver trays that held flower arrangements in pewter mugs and vases. Vintage postcards acted as table numbers. “One of my favorites was the sweetheart table—a rented vintage desk was topped with a lace runner, mismatched plates, candle holders and flowers,” she says.
Snack Surprise: During the cocktail hour, guests were treated to a popcorn bar, complete with an array of seasoning flavors like mac ’n’ cheese, buffalo wing, crab legs, caramel, maple bacon, s’mores, cinnamon bun, dill pickle, garlic parmesan and spiced apple pie, as well as topping like peanuts, marshmallows and chocolate morsels.
Favorite Part: For Brittany, the most important part was the people she and Greg shared it with. “It truly was the best day, and and I will cherish that feeling forever,” she says. “I am over the moon happy that I got to share it with the people I love the most!”
What Went Wrong: Although a rainstorm threw a wrench in her plans for an outdoor ceremony, Brittany ended up thrilled with the way her day turned out. “I stressed out so much about the weather a week before my wedding, but finally realized it was out of my control,” she says.
Advice For Other Brides: “My plan B ended up being better than plan A, thanks to the professionals I hired,” she says. “Hire great people, and trust them to do their job.”
Honeymoon: After the wedding, the newlyweds headed to the Finger Lakes for a relaxing honeymoon. “Best of all, Greg did all the planning!”
