How did you meet?
Growing up, I was one of the “popular girls,” while John was a regular old band kid. He didn’t like most of the girls at his school, but when he saw me his senior year in our gym class, his heart knew what it wanted. Being as determined as he was, he waited two years until the time was right to slide into my DMs. I was not interested in dating at the time, however, my maid of honor Nashae responded to John’s DM’s on my account pleading me to “give this guy a chance.” After meeting up for the first time, we instantly fell in love and knew that one day we would be married.

How did you get engaged?
When John was leaving for basic training, he knew that if we got married we would receive greater benefits from the Army. He thought long and hard whether to bring me along for the tough ride ahead or leave me to the easy life of a Jersey girlfriend. We sat together on our couch in our home on a warm March night. He looked me in the eyes with the vision of a hundred years and said, “You know we should really get married.” My face lit up with the warmth of the Western Sun, “Yes bug, let’s do it.”

Details of the day!
I always loved themed events. I felt like it just brought more personality to a party. So for our wedding, I had to have some kind of theme in mind or in place so I could plan our vision. Our theme was a midsummer dream, our colors were ivory, gold, and black. I just wanted flowers galore, the flowers were something that was important to me. It was my touch to our day because I love keeping fresh flowers around the house.

Why did you choose your venue?
We weren’t able to see our venue in person until 6 weeks before because we live in Washington and our ceremony was back home in New Jersey!

What was on your menu?
For dinner, we had two options for our guests. Crab cake, beef fillet, red-skinned mashed potatoes, jumbo asparagus, lemon cream sauce, and of course, a vegan option of vegetable stuffed peppers, a seasonal blend of veggies tossed with lentils and toasted oats and finished off with a drizzle of truffle oil.

All about your gown!
There was a bit of controversy behind my wedding dress. It wasn’t “the one,” it was the one I had to go with. My original dress got discontinued at BHLDN and I had to find a replacement and this was it. I think it’s a beautiful gown and I loved how I looked in it but, I wasn’t really connected to it.

What was your favorite moment?
Our favorite moment had to be the final dance. With all the stress and anxiety of the wedding day finally ending with a beautiful song and a beautiful soul in their arms. We sat still in time while those who loved them exited. This was it, we were officially one in the blessed union.

One detail you couldn’t live without?
I really couldn’t live without the flowers. They were wonderful.

Did anything go wrong?
No, our wedding planner was the glue that held our masterpiece together.

First dance song?
Flightless Bird by American Mouth

Any advice for future brides?
Make your day feel as normal as possible, do things the way you like to do them. Don’t change your routine, be you on your day.

Honeymoon Location
We’re driving from Forks, WA all the way down the coast of the Pacific NorthWest
