How did you meet? Bobby and I met at a mutual friend’s BBQ during the summer of our freshman year of college. We had attended high school together, but never really got to know one another. Not only did we start dating, but so did our best friends. Our best friends got married 3 weeks before us and were our Best Man and Matron of Honor at our wedding. It’s really special and amazing to see how everything has come full circle.
How did you get engaged? Bobby proposed on New Year’s Eve. He had just gotten accepted into the Police Academy in Myrtle Beach where we were set to move in the new year and I was throwing him a going away party.
He stood up to make what I thought was a speech thanking me for hosting the party, but instead got down on one knee and popped the question in front of all of our friends and family. I was completely surprised and thrilled! It was such a memorable night and I am so grateful that it was something our family and friends could be a part of.
Details of your day: We went for a Tuscan Vineyard vibe for our wedding. I loved the idea of incorporating lots of greenery, especially olive branches/leaves which were not only prominent in my bouquet, but in the centerpieces as well.
I also wanted to include wine elements so I made a wine cork board for our seating chart and we used a custom wine barrel in place of a traditional guest book. In lieu of favors, we donated to the American Cancer Society to honor some of our loved ones who could not be present on our big day.
Why did you choose your venue? We fell in love with the Shadowbrook the moment we saw it. We knew the elegance and charm of the estate in addition to the breath taking gardens would be the perfect setting for our big day.
What was on your wedding menu? Food is extremely important to Bobby and I which is another reason why we chose our venue. Some of the highlights of our wedding menu included Burrata, Chateaubriand and an assortment of Italian Pastries for dessert at each table.
What was your wedding cake like? Our wedding cake was a gorgeous 4 tier square cake that alternated between Cannoli Cream and Dulce De Leche filing.
How did you know the gown was “the one?” My Mother and God Mother were very involved in helping me pick out my wedding gown. The gown I originally envisioned myself wearing was the complete opposite of what I ended up choosing! When I put my gown on, I truly felt like a bride and knew it was the one I wanted to walk down the aisle in. I also choose a rhinestone head piece and not one, but two veils. The first being the cathedral veil I walked down the aisle in and the other was a short fun one for the reception.
Favorite moment? My absolute favorite moment of the evening was when Bobby and I were waiting on the staircase before being introduced into our reception for the first time as Mr. & Mrs. Blekeski. We had spent so much time and energy planning every detail and in that moment we really took it all in. We could not wait to get out on the dance floor and celebrate with our family and friends.
Detail you couldn’t live without? Wedding cake!! I have such an extraordinary sweet tooth and could not imagine a wedding without a cake!
Did anything go wrong? If anything did, we certainly were not aware of it!

Advice for other brides? Take a few minutes to soak it all in and enjoy yourselves because the day goes by faster than you can ever imagine. Hold each other’s hand and take a look around the room at all of your loved ones who are there to celebrate you and your love for one another.
