Their story: Amy Lutz and Rob Rabouin met one summer when Amy was just 11 years old. They soon discovered that they attended the same Piscataway middle school. These middle school sweethearts soon became high school sweethearts. And when Amy walked down the aisle on June 7, 2014, to marry Rob, it was the eleventh anniversary of their time together as a couple.
Details of the day: Adding even more ultra-personalized meaning to their big day was the couple’s plan for a summer-themed wedding. Since they couldn’t have an actual beach wedding, due to the couple’s choice to marry in a church, Amy made sure she brought the beach to their venue. She spent their two-year engagement planning and perfecting every detail of their two-toned beachy teal design, accented in lovely ways with starfish décor.
Wedding theme: “All the décor for our wedding had something to do with starfish,” Amy says. “I always knew I wanted a beach theme, and slowly everything turned into starfish. I thought it was beautiful, and just a little bit different than the usual beach theme. Since I love the color teal, I found that doing two shades of teal reminded me of beautiful ocean blues.” Amy chose a distressed treasure chest that a friend spent two years making as their card box, with the chest accented with shells and starfish that she had picked up from the beach in Siesta Key, Florida, where the couple later spent the second week of their honeymoon.
What they wore: Amy wore a Casablanca gown, with her niece in a similar style made out of fabric from Amy’s gown. The bridesmaids in Tiffany blue and the maid and matron of honor in turquoise all wore starfish earrings and starfish clips in their hair.
Favors: Yankee candles in the scent Bahama Breeze, with a starfish decorating the top.
Favorite moment: The Viennese hour. “We basically brought the boardwalk to our reception,” says Amy. “We had a cotton-candy bar, zeppoles and a huge ice cream bar along with many other desserts. We also had a signature rum drink called the ‘Something Blue,’ again in our beach theme.”
Honeymoon: One week in Bora Bora, one week in Siesta Key, Florida.
