New Jersey Bride chatted with Scott Udell, vice president of London Jewelers, about accessories for the bride and groom on their wedding day and beyond.

In general, Scott recommends developing a relationship with a jeweler who you can turn to throughout your life.

“We put a tremendous emphasis on that—creating a relationship with somebody over the process of [purchasing] an engagement ring and building that trust,” he says. “We take pride in creating those relationships, and we hope to service that client for many generations to come.”

London Jewelers has a store location in the Mall at Short Hills.

How do you suggest a bride accessorize on her wedding day?

I would say keep the jewelry pretty classic, timeless and elegant. Maybe it’s just a tennis necklace with diamonds, a simple pearl necklace, classic earrings with a little drop to it or a simple tennis bracelet. Super clean, nothing that you’re going to look back on in 20 years and say, “I can’t believe I wore that.” We have our own brand designs, and then we work with over 50 different jewelry designers and brands from Van Cleef to Cartier and Bvlgari. So, we have so many different offerings and looks and price points.

Do grooms often purchase watches for their wedding? What kind is best?

A watch is such a fantastic gift. It’s something that every day after the wedding, you could look down at your wrist and it brings you back to such an important day and time in your life. It’s a great way to mark such an important milestone as getting married.

Creating ring stacks, meaning a set of multiple rings that are worn together, seems popular right now. What should brides consider?

Have fun with it. Do what’s comfortable for you and suits your style. Like my wife, for example, for our five-year anniversary, I got her a really nice eternity band. And for our 10-year anniversary, she saw something similar and decided to stack them both together on her ring finger on her right hand, and it looks really cool. One of them is platinum and a more traditional prong set, and the other one is a bezel set in yellow gold. Is it a little thick? Sure. But does it work really well? Absolutely. To her, it’s comfortable on her finger. It’s a little different way to style yourself and set yourself apart from more of the traditional single
eternity bands.

Tell us about London Jewelers’ wedding day jewelry borrow program.

If you buy your engagement rings or wedding bands from us, then you can come in and pick something out to borrow for your wedding day [as your] “something borrowed.” It’s a great little perk of our shopping program and being with the London family. It’s up to a certain value of what your purchase was, we don’t really limit by saying it’s only these products. If you wanted to borrow a pair of diamond studs or a necklace, you can come in and make that selection and borrow it for the wedding. A lot of the time what will happen is the groom, knowing that that piece of borrowed jewelry played such a part in the wedding day, for an anniversary or an occasion, he’ll come back and want to buy her that piece that she wore on her wedding day.
