For Brides From Brides- General Advice

Posted on November 14 by Allison Dupree
Here at New Jersey Bride, we live by the idea of “for Jersey girls…by Jersey girls”

So that’s exactly what this blog series is; tips and tricks about planning and enjoying your special day.

This post is some general advice for how to reach your wedding and love every minute of it!

Stacey

Although future brides hear this time and time again, it is so important to take time to soak everything in and to truly enjoy yourself! I also made a point to not be one of those brides who said that they barely ate anything. During the cocktail hour, Chris and I took about 30 minutes to enjoy our first meal as husband and wife, and taste a ginormous sampling of the cocktail hour dishes. I also made sure to enjoy some of the delicious desserts and our wedding cake.

It goes by way too fast! Take time to take everything all in! Dance the night away .. It will be the best night of your life!

Do not be a nightmare bride! Be kind to your bridal party. Be kind to your fiancé during the planning process… as stressful as things may get. Make sure to greet your guests and be a gracious host. And most importantly– have fun! Enjoy the entire day, because it is gone in a flash!

My advice for other brides is don’t settle for a dress that you don’t love. I knew what I wanted, and tried on many dresses until I finally found my dream dress. Even though the wedding planning process can be crazy and stressful, just keep looking toward the end goal. Once you are experiencing the excitement of your wedding day, you will realize that all of the craziness of wedding planning was well worth it.

My biggest thing with our wedding was staying on budget. We were very blessed to have my parents pay for a lot of it and had my in-laws chip in too. The best thing I did was get our budget in the beginning and create a very detailed spreadsheet that accounted for every penny spent. If something cost more than I planned on I made sure I cut money somewhere else. It was a job, but in the end it kept us from being stressed about money!

A Winter Wedding at The Downtown Club - New Jersey Bride

My sister gave me this advice the morning of my wedding and I have since relayed it to every bride I know:  Stay together during the day. Greeting guests, dancing with friends–do it all together.  It is so important that you have the same memories from that day and night.  When you reminisce on the best day of your lives, you will have the same memories to look back on.

My advice for other brides is don’t freak out over the small things. Your wedding day comes and goes very quickly. I know first hand because I was engaged almost two years before I got married which seemed like a lifetime away…but now I wish it would come back everyday!
