With everything you’re planning, a playlist for your band or deejay can easily be overlooked. While it’s true that your music professionals shouldn’t need to be told what to play—or more importantly what not to play—every now and then a few misfires may sneak through. Especially if it’s a request coming from one of

your guests the day of the wedding.

Even as you’re choosing your first-dance song, you might be tempted to snag the latest pop hit because you love its sound without truly investigating the meaning behind the words. Case in point: Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” may seem romantic, but it’s actually about a one-night stand! Instead, you need to ensure that the words suit your occasion, and select a song that your guests will recognize. If you try to be too original, no one will really get it. Then run your pick past your music professionals so that they can best interpret it via string quartet, electric guitar or have a deejay play the original. Make sure that your must-have tune sounds its best not matter how you showcase it.
